Another childhood grail score. I've been looking for a clean example of one of these for a while. This is the same set I got for my seventh birthday. I remember it vividly we had just moved to Oklahoma, the birthday cake had a small corral with cowboys on horse back. My big present was this Gilbert chemistry set from 1960. I compared Gilbert chemistry sets in some 1960 catalog pages and it's the only three panel set that they made that year.

Not too bad of shape and complete except for the cork/metal alcohol lamp top. It's the most complete I've set I've ever seen, with original padding for test tube/glassware, inspection slip, order form, Gilbert Science Kits comic.
It's got the Molecular Model Building Kit of plastic "atoms" that was unique to these sets for a few years that's hard to find complete. FtApache shared the older orange 3 panel set with one, so the molecule kit was available at least two years. Three at the most, but I doubt it.
I've seen several other white sets made after 60 but they don't have the bottle of atoms in them. This was a present I remember asking for, my first big science toy. It was on one of my best birthdays when I received it.
    Thanks,
    Bill

Excellent! These Gilbert sets got me on my way with my career. I learned all about separating analytes with color chromatography. That led the way for me building chromatography systems including ion columns and non-polar reverse phase columns in graduate school. Chemistry is fun :)

Hoot, I was inspired by an Allied Radio Knight Kit Electronics Lab to go into electronics. I've heard many stories of a childhood gift leading to a career.

I am going to have to check my sets again. Your set is near mint with great graphics.
