Fascinating three-minute timing piece of kitchenware ... small, lightweight, 1930s style UK pyramid telephone in pastel green ...11cm high, 9cm wide, 4cm deep including the plastic tubing apparatus ...found in my home country New Zealand...shame the right end of base has broken off, but phone remains steady while the eagerly precipitating sand flows...I know a collector with six different small plastic sand timers but she has never seen this telephone variety...no great value am sure, to incite a sandstorm, but an intriguing curiosity ! Anyone with these devices in other creative guises ??!

It's an "egg timer" no doubt -- I have a likewise vintage HAMMOND electric kitchen clock which has an odd extra little dial on its face that runs in a 3min. cycle -- I believe I owe the thanks to other CW members for finally finding "the clue" what it was intended to be for.

I don't actually eat eggs myself (until they're really done and turn into chickens that is, which I think takes longer than 3min...?) with the exception as ingredients for all sorts of delicious dessert-type things... ;-) :-) :-)
