Well, I went and done it !! Yep....sold my Lake front Home of 19 years here on Lake Ontario. You see...I am trying to retire but can't afford to here in NY. First they threatened us with 60 wind turbine's of close to 600' tall that we're fighting then they raised the lake level causing us to loose 6' of lawn and then tax money of about $20,000 went into rocks dumped along the shore to stop erosion and I lost my beach that we enjoyed for 15 years. Now they have shut down our local coal/steam power plant loosing over 100 jobs and millions of dollars in tax money the plant paid into the county so our property taxes are going up. To hell with this state and its regulations...bye bye...another NY retiree is headed south.
OH DEAR EJW54 -- how startling it is to see your garage/garden shed so *devoid* of all the fun stuff we've all been used to seeing in and around it??!! <shock><rubeyes><wow>
OTOH, your explanations for making the big life change certainly also seem logical if not inevitable -- I trust you'll eventually find (if you haven't already) a new place somewhere down here in the 'sunny south', where indeed the cost of living can tend to be a whole lot less, also the average amount of "winter"...?? ;-) <lol>
GOOD LUCK in your transition -- I hope we all will be able to look fwd to all your cool stuff being *newly* displayed somewhere else in the future!!!! :-) :-) :-) :-)
Thanks AnythingObscure, just to let you all know we will be in southwest Virginia near Smith Mountain lake where my wife's sister is. just haven't found the right house yet, and yes I will be back to collecting and displaying it :) just an extra note I left NY back in the 90's to get away from high taxes and lived in NC for 4 years but came back to NY for a Golf Course Superintendent job.
Good Luck EJW-54, sounds like you need to enjoy your retirement in a Friendlier Place! Take Care, and Stay Safe! :^)
I can totally agree with you getting the heck outta there since the things you loved about your place were forever changed and totally out of your control to keep your little slice of Heaven just as you wanted it.
Just the name of the new area you are moving to conjures up pretty scenery in my mind. Just be sure to post pictures when “y’all “ get moved in.
Thanks Brunswick, will be on my way in a few weeks with my guitars and record albums and most of my collection that is in storage.
Bon chance ! Afraid there aren't any places safe from governments left in the States.
Sorry to hear they did that to you. I'll have to go to AZ if it gets out of hand here but so far OK.
Thank you Ed for sharing all your collectibles for the past nine years!! Good luck my friend on your next adventure!! God Bless!!
Michael
Wow! I keep reading about the Nuts running NY and am heartbroken the takers are pushing the producers away. Best of luck to you in your newest adventures. Lots of good Stuff in the South I hear. We got our P-51 in NC.
They're raising lake Ontario ? How do they do that ?
Told to me from a Jamaican. "Mon doesn't run from good". Hey Bobby, wouldn't they get arrested for polluting by the Canadians ?
It's not easy at our age to move and I wish you the best of luck. Remember, luck is made. You do know that the governor of VA is a rabid domo-crap who fights the people instead of fighting for them. Looking forward to hearing from you after you get settled in.
billretirecoll, Thanks, just to clear things up, western NY is a friendly place with a lot of us hard working urban people like me who grew up in the country and hung around farms , we have fruit farms and dairy farms, I will miss the Great lakes and farm country and especially the nice people but time to go!
Watchsearcher, thanks , it is beautiful in SW Virginia near the Blue Ridge Mountains , trying to find a house with a Mountain view.
Thanks bobby725 No I haven't been to Abingdon or Damascus but will be some time, have been to Blowing Rock and Boone when I lived in NC.
EJW-54, that may have sounded bad, but not what I meant, and never to disrespect your Home, but the situation that you were put into, when all you wanted was to enjoy your Retirement! :^D For me, that's all I want too! Take Care! :^)
Thanks blunderbuss2 your right, no safe place. Lake Ontario's water level is controlled by a joint government commission, there are locks and 2 Power Plants in the ST Lawrence river that can hold back the water flow to keep Montreal from flooding and help Freighters pass through while flooding us causing a billion dollars of property and economic damage all around this lake.
billretirecoll, there was no disrespect. I just felt like bragging about the area I grew up in , LOL
Montreal sounds like a fair trade-off for saving Lake Ontario. If the Canucks complain, the U.S. can throw in Ogdensburg ! LMAO !!
Thankyou Michael, it won't be long before I'm posting something, probably when I'm unpacking , lol
Thanks Rattletrap, nuts is right! and when they confront the gov. on people leaving his state he blames it on the weather..duh
So very sorry you had to deal with all of that. I hope your new home will be a wonderful forever home.
Hi Aimathena, thank you, hope all is good for you, I still have most of my collection in storage as I fix up a house in the blue ridge mountains of Virginia, then I will build another gas station to display my collection .
Come visit Charleston SC and all the lowcountry has to offer......
I have many friends here that have moved from NY and other states from up north.
And your collection is absolutely awesome!
Thank you Randall4 Charleston is on my list to visit, hopefully not to far in the future!
the third pic shows a really cool place! sorry you are leaving... but i hope new and better doors open for you.
Sign of The time's!! Us old farts just want the old day's back again but I'm afraid it's gone forever!!!
Late thanks to ho2cultcha, soon as I get my garage finished I'll fill it up and post pictures!
