    The top (lid) of the can shows:
    a large silver star, with the words circled around "THE STAR LEADS THEM ALL* ";
    then two gold circles, the first circle states: "THE MEDAL OF SUPERIORITY AWARDED TO KAMPFE BRO'S FOR THE STAR SAFETY RAZOR 1894, 5, 6"
    the second circle states: "...AN INSTITUTE ....W YORK" can't read the whole circle as it is covered by the first.

    the can itself it states: "The Improved STAR SAFETY RAZOR, Trade Mark, Price $2.00 , Made by the KAMPFE BRO'S New York, Pat. Feb 18, 1896 , Pat in England, France, Germany, Canada; THIS IS THE FIRST AND ONLY SAFETY RAZOR THAT THAT HAS GIVEN PERFECT AND ABSOLUTE SATISFACTION"

    Inside there are 4 pieces, (5 counting the blade) 3 round pieces that form the handle in which to hold the straight razor.
    there are scrolls and fancy wordings that the larger piece (actually is the razor head and blade,)
    the pieces has the following: "STAR SAFETY RAZOR * *" "KAMPFE BORS, NEW YORK, U.S.A"; "Numereous awards"; "Premiums & Medals"; "Foreign Patents England - Mar , 87; Nov 11, 95; also in Germany & France"; and the other side of the head reads: "Patented U.S.A. June 15, 80; June 22, 1886; March , 1887; August 7, 1888; Oct. 15, 94; Mar. 12, 95; Feb 18, 96"

    When it is assembled - you have a razor on one hend, and on the other end a straignt blade.

    All contained in a small round can that measures: 2" tall and 1" wide. WOW

      Bill, yes, I got this today, the seller was just going through a tub he had just got, so I told I would be back tomorrow (by 6) !
      Only $ 5.00. inflation has been kind the Star Razor!!!

      lptools, thank you for your post.
      I was so excited when he said "$5" -- even more interesting the this is the first single blade razor every made "1884" until the patent expired in "1897"

      That is when a salesman named King Camp Gillette gets the idea for a safety razor with disposable blades. Gillette applied for a patent on December 3, 1901 and began production in 1903.
