Not many Studebakers are around in die cast but here is one. Let me see what there is to say about. Seems to have sleek European styling. Yes it is a bit smaller than the usual 1950s car. It had good performance. 0-60 in less than 19 seconds. Not quite blistering but OK for 1953. Apparently there were problems in quality control due to being rushed into production. Now let's see what there is to say about the model.
White wall tires! That just says 1950s. Aside from that all the usual details. The shape of the head lights housing makes the styling on this. I know! And then there is that curved rear window. Before the 1950s glass was basically flat so this was quite exciting. Plus there are a bunch of decals from a Mexican road rally.
The rally was the Carrera Panamericana. It was a 2000 mile plus road rally on the newly constructed Pan American Highway. It ended up being very dangerous . Mostly due to the drivers driving on normal roads going as fast as they could. There were 9 fatalities in the last race in 1954. The race was brought back in 1988. This model was sponsored by a motel (may not be based on a car that actually raced there). Originally people entered without sponsors who were not professional drivers.
Wrapping it up is my new improved display. Does not look too bad.
