The first of my fine finds from Long Beach. It is a set of 4 Batocera beetles. The larger set is Batocera wallacei a male and female and second set I can't quite read but it is a male and female pair collected in 1969. Says so on the tag.
The largest which is top center is a Batocera wallacei male. There is a penny and a pencil to show scale. The antennae are 12 inches across from tip to tip. See fig. 2. Fig. 3 is the female. This set was collected in 1970. There is also some writing in French under the species name.
It has a nice display case with a removable top. There are loops on the back for wall mounting. A bit tricky as there is one on each corner so I have to get it even and I eyeball everything. I know measure twice but I just go to it.My insect wall is out of space so I am going to have to do some rearranging. We shall see how that goes.
Eek! I hope those love deep in the French forrests and not near Southern US homes!
I have never been able to step on a bug because I fear it might run up my leg....such as one of these fright-inducing creatures might be able to do!
Make that “live”, not “love”!
I would much rather see these dead and on display....lol.
ya the little one kinda looks like ringo...lol cool find ..
Thank you very much valentino. The bugs get bigger the further south you go. San Diego has big one.
Thank you very much watchsearcher. I think these are from Indochina where french is common.
Thank you very much truthordare. There you go.
Thank you very much Roy. Um perhaps a bit.
