Found this knife in our backyard under some 100-year old trees. 5 inch blade plus 4 inch handle. End appears to be stone with 3 loose metal rings. Would love to know any information about it!

Looks like iron to me. Try a magnet on it. Does look real old. Where did you find it ?

      blunderbuss2,
Great idea. Yes, it is magnetic!
I found it in our backyard. There is an area with 100-year old trees where I find stuff periodically - rain washes away the dirt and things (mostly rocks) seem to rise out of the ground. This was not buried - just on top in an area with no grass.

You found it under a tree, so that eliminates the world's deserts. There is a lot of the world left. Italy ? China ? Australia ? Give us a hint.

My apologies. I am in Dallas, Texas, USA.

Appears to be an old Bowie style. This style is often described as Confederate but it was a common side knife seen before and long after the War of Northern Agression.

Wow !! I just posted a knife I found that looks exactly like this !!! I’m trying to figure out age or make . I found mine metal detecting at a known civil war encampment. Wondering if this is from same period or not ?! Have you been able to get any info on yours? If you get chance check out my profile and see the pic of the knife I posted . I’m almost positive same knife !
