Appears to be a mystery Chinese metal box? looks to be made of brass?
3" x 4" x 1" tall
the curved piece is about 2 1/2"
Everything appears to be welded. Very fine welds (maybe machine welds?). If you lay the box portion flat, the handle for the lid appears to be on the wrong side? Has a stamped mark that says China. Has cloisonne panels welded on. It's very solid and well built.
So the question is .....what is it? Maybe someone can date it by the China stamp? My first thought was ashtray or cigarette box? But what's with the curved portion? Maybe it's a piece of an ink well set? And why is the handle on the wrong side to open the lid? I tried flipping the box the other way.. then it seems the images are upside down.
Might be copper ???
That's a good point, could be copper. Although I dont see any greenish tarnish that you would see with an item of this age.
cute but very low value and the glazing is at best mediocre
Not concerned with value..just cant figure out what it is?
, i don,t know i think they use it for all kinds of stuff , jewelry coupons beads etc
actually i used it as a Chun Guang container when i lived in China hahaha
