Firstly, many thanks to Penny for this truly stunning piece of Victorian art glass.
Attributed to Stevens & Williams of Stourbridge, the bowl is made from clear glass with pink stripes that radiate outwards from the centre of the base. The outside of the bowl is covered in extremely fine clear machine threading, & there is an applied yellow - green crest on the crimped top rim. The applied crest contains uranium & produces an intense glow under UV light.
The bowl measures around 6.5 cm tall, 14.5 cm across the top rim, & 4.5 cm across the applied, clear footed base, which has the shape of a flattened disc, & is 9 mm thick.
The top rim has an affinity with the "jack in the pulpit" form more typically seen on vases of the period, in that it is slightly pulled upwards at the back, & pulled out in a peak at the front.
I cannot praise enough the artistry, skill, & remarkable attention to detail evident in this piece. And it is in immaculate condition, too.
    Circa 1880s.
Last photo is one for all the folks out there who enjoy pink things, glass & otherwise. And also as a virtual bouquet sent with much appreciation to inky...
