Zuni Owl Museun Replica
Measures approx. 8-1/2" tall by 5-3/8" by 5-3/4"
I've had this for quite a while. It sits in my bathroom next to other collectibles. I see it so often I forgot that it was Zuni. We recently had picked up some slides that had Zuni art and pictures on them. I was trying to remember where I had seen other Zuni stuff then I remembered ..duh!
Metropolitan Museum of Art and Baltimore Museum of Art Zuni Pueblo replica that takes the form of this hand painted pottery owl. Marked MMA-BMA on the bottom, decorated with spotted feathers and brightly painted orange eyes.
The Zuni are Native American Pueblo peoples native to the Zuni River valley. The current day Zuni are a Federally recognized tribe and most live in the Pueblo of Zuni on the Zuni River, a tributary of the Little Colorado River, in western New Mexico, United States.
What a great example of Zuni pale slip and subtle crushed rock colors. The pose and expression --- wonderfully alive. Thanks! I really covet a Zuni owl. Someday... :)
Thank you, I enjoy looking at it. It makes me smile when I see it.
i have an old one of these. it's funny how our collections overlap in so many places!!
