Found this nice plate today at the thrift shop. I’m hoping someone can tell me if it is from Japan or China. I think these are cranes.

WE just had our Thanksgiving weekend holiday, no cranes but lots of turkeys.

Surprised nobody commented on this fine Japanese place. It is marked with the actual Satsuma family and pottery mark, the traditional cross in a circle. Asian folklore of good omens, the cranes are often used as motifs and decors, on Japanese art works.

Thanks for posting, very nice find.

WTF -WTF i am in chinese not in japanese, i got more questions than answers

it looked a stylised satsumi yaki mark( stylised or abbreviated , strange inside mon , it still looks generic

it is almost impossible to date generec porcelain, most have some age if the flooded crackle glaze could be indication, but the teared off labels looks later

bit rude , bit busy, looks real chalk white

I AM JUST GUESSING , SO I COULD BE COMPLETELY OFF , i think it is taisho period, the flight of cranes has probably an antroposophical meaning
