This prancing zebra is from the 1990s. It has the Trifari tm mark. Jenni posted the earlier 1960s version which has a fetching rhinestone eye. This version has a gold-tone eye but does have striking black enamel. Both of these version are from patent 131,242 dated, January 27, 1942. It is interesting to note that while the stance of the zebra, the mane, head, eye and tail are the same, the patent drawing has different markings on the the body. I don't think it was originally designed as a zebra, but just as perhaps a circus horse. The brooch measures 2 and 3/4 inches tall by 2 inches wide. The gold-tone metal is very reflective, so the camera is reflected as black discoloration on the body. This piece is in excellent condition.
Thanks for stopping by.
Very nice- and I would agree, he looks just like a rearing horse- a pose you rarely see zebras in actually or even you don't happen to see that many zebras depicted in art/sculpture so that's a really nice brooch to have
LaurenRedmond- Thank you I agree about the pose. Zebras are a rare image. Thanks for the love, too.
Eileen, Thank you!. The Ark series did include originals, like that adorable tiger. I haven't found any early patents for that one. There is an elephant from the early 40s, but I have never seen one from the ark series. I think the ark series was a mixture of old and new designs. Thanks for the love and compliment. I'm always learning new things from collectors like you!
six-o-one- Thanks for the love and the exact dating for this piece. Kindred Trifari fans are we.

Very pretty Trifari zebra, I don't have a 60s version though
Jenni, My mistake! You have the cute tiger! I don't why I thought I saw the zebra on CW, too. Oh well, my apologies.
I think you have the best version of this zebra, it's so beautiful!
Jenni, Thank you!
Just love the Trifari line.
Very classy stuff
