I think this is a classic piece of Japanese glass.
The shape is very traditional, perfectly balanced, sensual even. The decor is of a style used by H Iwata that really draws on Japanese pottery. The base colour is that iron red with black streaks, over which has been loosely spattered bright blue and yellowish orange. The final layer is a very fine spatter of black glass and the whole has been sand blasted. It's subtle yet complex.
I don't believe this particular vase was production made at Iwata. I have only ever seen one other like it and it came with a tomobako. This one did not but I do believe it to be an artist piece.
Measures 28cm
Lovely subtle coloring with beautiful design
Thanks Jenni, it is quite a subtle decor but stunning too! Yes, the shape is beautiful I agree.
Eileen good observation because that round base is a very Japanese thing. They love a foot on their glass and they are nearly always round.
It's almost summer here so enjoy the autumn colours for yourself :))
Soooo nice! It’s a love, love from me!!!
beautiful indeed
Hey Ms Sue! Glad to hear from you, thanks for the love love.
Hope you are staying well, keep safe :)
Thanks very much Sylvia, lovely to hear from you.
I love this vase! Looks both rustic and fragile elegante at the same that.
at the same time....
Thank you Elisabethan, and I agree the rustic yet elegant feel is strong with this one.
Back atcha baby!!! You’re always welcome, you get the best of the best Japanese art glass and whatever else they have good! I have an original kimono , all silk and been wanting to sell it for years and just the other day I put that sucker on and never getting rid of it! It came from a gent that was in the service, WW2. It’s a little tattered in places that I’ll stitch back together but it’s really amazing!
