Bought this Jenny Lind a few weeks ago. I am now sure of the proper decade to place this one under being 1850's Thanks Jim. I didn't realized they came in oil cloth, let alone what I was thinking just canvas, as well as leather. This oil cloth covering, its a very soft fabric to the touch. Easily recognizable now with some proper understanding as to what the heck your looking at, I knew there was something different about it.. Thanks again Jim. The trunk measures in at 26" long x 15" deep x 14" tall. Brass lock with the working key which was nice. It has only two Brass end bands, top and front, were as the back one are just painted bands. It once had wheels on the underside, shown by the hardware remnants. Originally I was thinking to use the lock for the other all leather one I had just posted missing the key hole cover. The guy was asking 20.00 so what the heck, but it was a 9 1/2 hr trip there and back so that's not good. I found out, which is a total rarity, he was willing to ship the whole trunk which was 40.00. So that was a huge time and effort savings making it a great deal. Now that I have it, I have to keep it as a whole. The only trunk similar that I could find image wise, was none other than one of Brian's (greendog) trunks, that he did a amazing job on which I included in photo 4, thanks for posting your image. Hope that's OK Brian?
No problem Tom, nice find, first one that I've seen that was similar to mine, with the same shape and wood slat configuration, nice.
Thanks Brian! I scoured around trying to find this trunk, only to find tons of Jenny Lind trunk styles but none the same until your post, I think last week. I guess it's a fairly rare style & layout, from what I could find, or I should say, couldn't find, out there. I'm glad I was able to get it. Thanks for the love as well!!
Thanks for the love there Trunkers!! Cokeman1959 - Watchsearcher - greendog -

Very nice trunk. I would say 1850s. Your trunk is covered in what was called oil cloth.
Hey Thanks Jim, Night owls..lol Thanks so much for the input I'll fix that!! Oil cloth who would have guessed that. I can certainly tell it is of a different nature fabric. I have a couple of my own inadvertent nail scratches on it from unwrapping it. It leaves like a sued texture behind it. I thought that was pretty weird. Your expertise in Jenny Linds & trunks, helps all our understanding grow for sure. Very much appreciated once again!!
That’s a sweet Jenny Lind! Nice find!
You have been raking in almost weekly finds for months. Congrats!
I believe it might just be oil cloth covering that I’m working to remove on that really nasty Martin Maier flat top I posted a while ago. It’s a very soft flimsy material. Not at all like a canvas. Easy removal, comes off by using only bare hands/fingers.
I will research this more. Thanks again for your direction.
I would say it has the same fluid-ness and feel to that of a bed sheet. Yes different for sure.
Thanks Damon, I did hit a run of the nice early trunks which are not posted very often up here. Then all of a sudden several. I didn't really have any from this era that had real merit, just my square one in original leather, so I was glad to snag the Jenny Lind examples that I did. Variety is the spice of life!! Thanks again and for the love!!

Beautiful find! Is that a key I see - super bonus! Glad you were spared the long drive, I’ve had about a 50% success rate on people willing to ship.. usually they do out of kindness because they could always sell locally. Great post and info !
Thanks for the love Trunkman. A key is always a bonus, my personal selection is getting low and is getting tougher to find a bingo. Plus these locks have a very large hole in the end of the key which I think I have only one. Yes, with regular folks, shipping is like kryptonite to superman, so I was very shocked when he said he would. Certainly made life easy that's for sure. Thanks again!
