Very nice and very Victorian bowl with under-plate. Alternating vertical stripes of clear, cranberry pink and white. I've read where this decor is termed "Cleveland Stripe". Not sure whether it's English or Bohemian or American? Polished pontils on both. Last 15 years of 19th century. Very heavy for its size. Was it made singly or in a set of 4 or 6? What would have been its specific use if designed as a commercial piece? Matte finished external surface in acid bath - English / Stourbridge firms did this a lot and was considered one of the worst jobs you could be given in the glass works. 15 cms across ruffled top and approx. 8 cms high.
Delectable ruffled pair, when combined they make a beautiful flower - I love them!
Thank you, Newfld for your appreciation of this lovely Victorian item. It's one of my favourites, too! Wish I had another three of them, but that's being greedy!
