This vase is about 9" high x 10" widest diameter, hand painted with the Koransha orchid mark on the bottom. There is gilt in the veins of the leaves and rim of the vase. Overall, in very nice shape with a bit of discoloration to the base rim from use which may clean up. The style of the mark and shape of the vase is consistent with vases I have seen dated to the 1930s. One of the Japanese pottery mark sites that I frequent also dates it to that period.

It is a nice example of the 3-D effect both Koransha and sister company Fukagawa attain in their decoration. This is a fairly large vase for Koransha, based on my research. I splurged a bit on this vase to celebrate the election of our new president. Well worth celebrating! Actually, I did pretty well on it as the seller thought it was Kutani, not realizing it is Koransha. Koransha vases like this are selling for four to five times the amount that I paid for this vase, so I am pretty satisfied. I am a collector, not a reseller, so not concerned with the value, but I am unlikely to have bought a vase like this unless I got a real deal.

Thanks for your comments Elisabethan. Nice to have but also a responsibility as I have to care for it and make sure that it survives for the next owner to enjoy.

It is almost psychedelic....those flowers appear to be growing out of the vase. I have a smaller Koransha vase that I uploaded in CW many years ago....you can see it by looking up my site at CW. Love the quality of Koranshe- wares.

Thanks for your comment LOUMANAL! Koransha and Fukagawa are my current favorite Japanese kilns followed very closely by Genemon. They all reek of quality workmanship...
