Trying to date this army blanket. Is this a date on the tag? Or a serial number? I couldn’t find dating info, except for for sale items, which I’m not sure I should trust.

It appears they had contracts with the military for World War 1.

Hi Janes. :-)
Yes, that does seem to be a date. Here is a similar Portland Woolen Mills army blanket at Chairish (they seem to have had quite a run on September 26th, 1917):
*snip*
Antique 1917 WWI Portland Woolen Mills U.S. Army blanket. This blanket features a dark green stripe over the olive ground with a brown U.S. logo in the center and the original Portland Woolen Mills tag. The tag dates the blanket to 09-24-17 [sic] from the S.F. Depot.
