I have had this apple for quite a few years now, one of those pieces of glass I acquired from Japan just because I liked it. Lots of my glass is purchased for research so for me to buy a piece just from want is not necessarily a common occurrence.
I don't know who made it although there are a few suspects swimming around my brain. As with quite a lot of Japanese glass it is unsigned.
Made in a paperweight method it has coloured glass flowers encased in clear. The clear glass has been worked into an apple shape, given a stalk and a skin of tightly spattered green glass. After blowing there has been some serious grinding and polishing to make the two flat sides from what was once a sphere.
It's a happy and delightful piece of glass and one that is often commented on by visitors. Maybe that's because amongst all of my other glass the green really pops, and it is a familiar object compared to some of the more "difficult" glass objects here.
It's a pretty big apple, around 1kg and 16cm high, and would test your arm strength and teeth if you wanted to bite it.

Gorgeous creative glass apple, what an amazing showpiece - no wonder it elicits comments, it's a stunning work of art! The design is pure genius, love that awesome encased floral bouquet

So quirky, & so different from any paperweights I've seen. Learning about the unique take on glass that Japanese artists have is a real privilege, thanks to your passionate collecting & research efforts. The level of skill is outstanding, a true tour de force of glassmaking, especially at that size!
PS. As I write this, possums are eating our real apples even though they are still tiny...should confound them with glass ones... :-)

I'm glad you like it Jenni, and as always thanks for your love and comment.
I guess the apple is a Granny Smith and she was quite local to my area and is buried nearby, so that's pretty good too!

      Hey thanks Marin.
I know Japanese glass can be a bit different, some uncomfortably so, but this one is good different.

indeed delicious, I can smell the apple

Just amazing, but pretty too. After 'cut to clear' and 'cut to spatter', I shall think of this beauty as 'cut to flowers'.

Thanks Sylvia so nice to hear from you, please stay well.

Thanks so much Ms CS! I go for Granny Smith as it was a locally developed apple, and they are the only greens we see here.
I'm glad my collection amazes, so thanks for that too!

well delete it , i write 90 % positive evaluations and most of the time nuanced, you can,t win them all

Apostata yes, on critical terms it is not the greatest glass. The paperwork inclusions are simple. We still can like it and I did not get offended at your comment.

Eileen thank you for caring for my possible hurt feelings. I agree CW should always be a positive place and I appreciate that you spoke up. I am used to Apostata, he just states how it is, and I can't take offense at a comment that I agree with, even if it was a bit clumsy. Thanks again :))

no sorry its my fault , but i am looking at different way at glass, and i try to be tactical,

Lol! You know I'm loving the comments... I miss being here. I know I'll get stuck again tho and be here way too much, but hey, long as I'm enjoying my time. I love granny smith apples and this great piece of glasswork. I don't think anyone could argue that it took some pretty decent skill to do this! xoxo

It is a most fantastic apple! I love it. It is interesting with a "world" inside the apple. The skin is extra cool. I understand why you did want this.

Hey Sue, I'm often entertained here. I guess writing doesn't always show tone but if comments are valid and personal to themselves people can say what they want!
Granny Smiths are THE best cooking apples and green's my favorite colour anyway so all good for them and this glass.
Stay well mate, I'm pretty worried about my US friends.
