Anybody know what this was used for? When it was made? Anything? I really like Oribe, Umanome [Horse's Eye] - the very rustic and old pottery which is very wabi-sabi! Thanks!

i don,t know oribe but not an Umanome , it does, not look like an katakuchi for the matcha

What are the dimensions? Could it be a yuzamashi?

, you could be right but i am not convinced yet they always intertwine i believe, i think it,s a bit too flat to be an yuzamashi, from origan yuzamashi are pouring vessels and got a handle , lets say the odds are even, your guess is as good as mine

Very cool piece, whatever it was for... I am just guessing, apostata. You probably know more about this than I do. Maybe rhineisfine will have an idea since he is a fan of the tea ceremony....

i've shown it to a number of Japanese friends and they all said katakuchi without hesitation.

      it's a bit large for a yuzamashi.
