This Loetz Ausf 136 came to me from Italy; it was described as Murano, which I can very much understand due to the use of similar blue glass with aventurin in some Murano pieces. What surprised me most about it in person was how very shiny it is due to the flashed finish; it makes it quite difficult to photograph! I do love the applied berries with their silvery iridescence. It is a quite a good sized vase, measuring 8"(20.3cm) tall x about 5-1/2"(14cm) wide. I was happy to find its paper pattern in my book and CD - PNII-7501. I just realized that I have quite a few Loetz vases in 'dunkelblau' (dark blue) now - 7, I think! I must have a love of this shade of blue!

It is amazing to think that it made it through two wars, and then on from Italy to the US. I was worried about it during shipment, but it was thankfully very well packaged!

Lovely blue! Contrasts nicely with the coppery aventurine.

Recently Michelle you seem to have had a wonderful run of Loetz pieces that we don't see so often. Your shelves must be a delight every day!

Hi Peggy, yes, I have been very lucky with Loetz lately! I have no idea why - I think it just goes in waves somehow - the world works in odd ways. You are so kind; I have been reorganizing my shelves lately to make room for my newest vases. :)

very lucky and also there is a common use to say that every highly colored glass is Murano

I love those Murano attributions - maybe you got it for a song Michelle?
I often wonder how things like this survive over many years without damage. Still - a very special piece indeed.

Thank you Phil! I think the Murano attribution was also made because the vase was in Italy. But yes, I got it for a very, very good price. I don't spend much on my glass, and prefer the thrill of the hunt! :)
