Ever since I joined CW just over 4 years ago, I've learned so much more about Art Nouveau glass, thanks to all the amazing collectors out there. All the iridescent goodness I kept seeing posted here made me want to diversify my own collection to include some of the drool - worthy specimens that I've added to my favourites list over the years.
Well, I've now amassed a nice selection of Art Nouveau glass by various makers, & I'm loving it all. I've been particularly fortunate to find quite a lot of it locally, as well, which is even better.
Which brings me to this vase - my first example of Kralik Bacillus!
How I've yearned for some Bacillus of my very own...in any shape or form. What a happy little camper I was when I spotted this as a buy it now item on eBayAU. I put in a daringly low offer, & to my astonishment, it was accepted.
The vase is of a simple, squat form, & measures 10 cm tall, 8.8 cm across the cut & polished top rim, & 5.2 cm across the base.
I'm not even going to try to name the colour of it as it is so incredibly mutable, that it's near impossible to pin down. There seems to be an inner layer of amber/gold spatter, overlaid with intense iridescence & messy short threads & splotches in purplish - gold. The photos lend it a silvery tone which isn't how I see it in reality. It's a true will 'o the wisp, always escaping easy categories & explanations.
Bacillus has been on my glass "bucket list" because it does remind me somewhat of Peloton glass, with those short, broken, random threads...
Wonderful! I think this is a particularly nice example of Bacillus, Marin. It really has a lot of great stands and a beautiful color. I am so glad you were able to check this one off your list. I am jealous I can’t find glass like this locally, but happy that you can! :)
Thanks so much, Michelle!
I do feel extremely lucky to be able to find special glass locally, even without the usual round of antiques fairs & flea markets...
Oh, this one is spectacular!! Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!
I share your love of this décor and understand your joy in adding one to your collection. Happy Days!
Many thanks, jscott0363! I'm thrilled with it, that's for sure!
Thanks also, Peggy, it was a wonderful find indeed...I well recall when you posted your fine example of Bacillus a few years ago - & it inspired me to find one of my own - so to get this meant so much!
uahuh so nice
