Matchbox Monday
Welcome to another episode of Matchbox Monday. Last week we were preoccupied and missed an episode.
In today's episode we feature the Dodge Deora. This was a strange concept vehicle introduced in 1967. It featured a forward cab design with a forward opening windshield. You accessed the vehicle by climbing through the front.
2003 Hotwheels 35th Anniversary Dodge Deora.
Originally introduced in 1968 as one of the Hot Wheels sweet 16 vehicles.
In the last picture you can see the GM engineers have no creativity whatsoever. Their new concept truck is just a redo of the Deora.
DEORA
"The Alexander brothers commissioned the design from Harry Bentley Bradley in 1964. It was unveiled in their home town during the Detroit Autorama in 1967, where it won nine awards including the Ridler Award. The Deora is based on the compact Dodge A100 pickup. The back hatch of a 1960 Ford station wagon served as the windshield. It was chopped, sectioned, and channelled to create the fully functional, futuristic-looking pickup. The slant six engine and 3-speed manual transmission were moved rearward 15 inches, out of the cab and into the bed and covered by the hard tonneau."
This is SOoooo very cool!! I had actually never heard of this concept vehicle until now.
this would be great for beer runs....@ 1/2 time....smiling and I didnt know GM built that .. I'd take one and modify it to death ....lol nice post..bud
Theonlyone...GM just released this concept drawing this week.
When I was looking for cars to show for matchbox monday, I had to show this one. No creativity by GM engineers. It's no different than being too lazy to create a new movie vs just doing a sequel.
well Dave ford came out with the bronco again ,,,GM should come out with a mid size and full size ...drum roll please ..aaaaaaaaaaa 1955 4x4 shot bed.. they would clean house hands down ...but they would screw it up by making elect.....lol and then ford can come with their 55 ford shot bed lol what ya think
Recognized the Deora right away. It is a classic.
PS very cool that is was based on the A100. I just got a model of the A100'
Thanks Fort..I had copied and pasted the info at the end, thats what it says too. A100. Was pretty cool back then.. inlike the corvair trucks with the side loading beds too?
Theonlyone...I said for years ..before they started making the camaro and challenger..even before the prowler..they should've redone a 55-57 chevy.
The original chevelle concept looked cool as heck..based on the 1970 chevelle(I had a driver and a roller). Then it started looking like a new camaro, then turned into a 4 dr every other car looking piece of junk.
If they made a cool car, that you could easily swap out the engine in, that would be cool. You can't put your finger in the engine compartment of a hellcat.
And the new Blazer..good lord..its a damn equinox with a rebadge! They ruined that name, just like the Malibu and the Nova name.
Ya Dave ..hear we are 2021 I bought and read all the magazines that show the cars of the future that were to be ,..we the hell are they...lol at lease the older car you could work on them ..I mean I have a tj with air ..really ..would of like a v8 and a turbo and a couple of 650 twin blowers thank you ... they just keep making $hit ....no one really wants ..lo later
Theoo..I agree.. thats why I have my 64 C-10 with a 383 stroker and 12 bolt posi. And my 2012 Silverado with a custom tune. Wanted a newer truck, just paid it off, but they went ugly and GM is locking out the ECMs.
My 12 has a custom ECM & TCM tune. Makes a huge difference..turn of the AFM, crank up the speed limiter, tuned shifts..Custom Diablew 92 octane tune ..Lew is a magician. Wakes up that LS motor..4 wheel drive..it can overpower the traction control and limited slip..done it accident a few times. Most of time just works killer..Push in the tow button and it'll bark shifts.
dav2no1, Dude, how did I ever manage to miss this post with the kwazy Dodge Deora?

Still extremely cool
Thanks Kera..great links!
dav2no1, No prob. :-)
Actually, there WAS a problem.
One of the websites I wanted to link, because it had more pictures of that strange front end opening, and good details; however, it doesn't seem to play well with all interfaces.
It works fine on my smart phone, and using Edge on my Windows box, but it goes all wonky using Firefox on Windows.
Gonna put the link in parentheses, so that people don't idly click it, and get themselves into a sticky wicket:
