The artwork on the board label and the board itself is fascinating! I wish I could find a picture of the box it came in!
Look at the wonderful detail in these little illustrations from the corners of the board!
Derived from a game originally called "Chaupar" in ancient India, it spread to the rest of the world and became immensely popular not just for entertainment purposes, but also as a way to instruct on morality!
And here I thought that it was just a simple kid's game!

Gorgeous colorful version of this ancient India 2AD classic. It seems that Milton Bradley's Chutes and Ladders game has the basic concept

I think it reminds one of the carnival sideshow banners - the art work especially has the characteristic of the sideshow artist.

Yes, Newfld, MB's Chutes & Ladders is directly descended from that early form of the game. I didn't know it went as far back as 2AD, though! Wow!

RichmondLori, I think you hit that nail on the head!
      Quite an astute observation!
I was trying to figure out why this art had a familiar feel to it. A friend of mine collects those banners and now that you've mentioned it, I can see these illustrations fitting in right alongside those sideshow banners.
      Thanks for pointing that out!
