This must have been a real beauty when fully operational! As seen, it was in need of repair. I'd guess that the three holes on the right and left sides of "Cocktail Lounge" once featured cocktail glasses, perhaps flashing, neon to catch attention.
This photo was taken in 2012.
Donahue's Hour Glass was located at 216 S. Main Street, Wilkes Barré, PA, and had started to close down in the early years of the 21st Century. Following the full retirement of its owner, around 2019, the establishment was sold, and the sign removed. Hopefully, it did not end up in a scrap heap!
That's a rare beauty Ted, love the hourglass design - must have been a fun place to spend some time
Such a great old sign!! Sadly, a lot of these wonderful old signs do end up in the scrapyard. Like you, I too hope this one was salvaged by someone who appreciates it.
Hi, Ted_Straub. :-)
I agree that those holes represent what was left of a couple of drink glass images, possibly martini glasses. I used to see a lot of little bars that didn't even have names posted outside, just a sign with a couple of martini glasses to let passersby know it was a bar.
Here's the sign in September 2008 (unfortunately, the resolution of Google Streetview photographs was pretty crapstastic in 2008):

Here it is in October 2013:

By October 2016, that sign was gone, replaced by a flat-mounted one advertising "Donohue's Irish Pub":
