I was fortunate enough to visit my grandmother (AKA Abuela Leo) in Miami a year before she passed at the young age of 96. While I was there, she did as many older folks do, and gave me a few of her treasured keepsakes. She knew it was almost time, and we knew that these would be our last days together. This was the same day she passed on her hand fans to me.
Anyways, no sad stories here...
One of the wonderful things she gave me was this 60s or 70s petit point make-up/jewelery case with faux tortoise shell. It's not valuable (well, it IS to ME), plastic lined, made in China...but what she had stored inside made me cry.
It was her mother's wedding gloves. Embroidered tulle and lace, a beautiful aged cream. Fingerless, to be able to slip on the wedding ring. Lovely. She said I should have something from my great grandmother and I thank her for that.
Thanks Cindyjune!
