A couple of new pieces. The jug arrived two weeks ago from the Salvos. It's marked Vallauris and Kostanda. Kostanda (1921 - 2007) followed his mother into the ceramics industry at Vallauris in 1936 with Louis Giraud. It was Kostanda in 1968 who began the Biennale in Vallauris that attracts even today the promising young things in French ceramics. His choice of Vallauris/Cluny clays and the wood kiln firing give his work an unmistakable look. I love the handle too!
The candlestick is perhaps Italian. It's not marked. It has a hollow foot that is covered in a turquois glaze. Any help would be appresiated with these pieces. The candlestick looks a little like the futurist work done in Italy before and after the war.
Not really my tastes, but I'm strangely attracted to the candlestick. And, I agree about the jug handle...very Secessionist in style. Nice pieces.
Many thanks BELLIN68, scandinavian_pieces, cogito & ozmarty too!
The candlestick is very nice, but I love the jug, pregnant with the image of the bird, which fits it beautifully.
