For aluminum, this ashtray is surprisingly heavy. I wonder if it is military surplus or something like that? i think it's pretty cool for an ashtray.

These are similar, but less substantial:

This one, although round, strikes me as being even more similar to yours, and its history more interesting:

Vintage metal ashtray is a new find, a vintage aluminum ashtray, made in Athens, Greece in the early seventies. It's a silver coloured, round plate ashtray with two rests for cigarettes, a vintage Greek homewares piece that was handmade from an earth mold. Most brass and aluminum sculptures and metal items in Greece at the time were made by artisans who worked with molds and kilns they later fired the metal in.This retro ashtray could be pure aluminum or a mixture with brass, called zama locally.
It's an aluminum, retro, round plate with a wide rim and two rests on the rim for cigarettes. It has a conical shape with a flattened rim and a deeper bowl part for the ashes. There are two rests for cigarettes, diametrically opposite from each other. This vintage, metal ashtray is clearly handmade by a Greek aritsan, beautifully designed and well made.

This one is also cast aluminum albeit triangular in shape (and unfortunately, no provenance information, other than 1960s vintage):

thank you keramikos! that last one does seem the most similar to mine. it's odd how i really like the shape and feel of it, but as someone whose memory is very tied to smell, everytime i look at it, i smell stale cigarettes!
ho2cultcha, You're welcome. :-)
I like ashtrays, too, even though I've never smoked.
