Received this dresser awhile ago and thinking about painting it. But if it's an antique and worth money, should I? Does anyone know any information about this dresser?

I doubt it is an antique quite yet but getting there. Quickest way to devalue it is to paint it. I would leave it alone and preserve what ever I have in it.

Please do not paint....no paint can compare to the beautiful grain of the wood. And in the future, someone who values antique furniture will have to take on the unpleasant task of removing that paint. Someone just posted an old dresser that had 2 coats of paint put on previously by someone....now, as the new owner, they were about to start restoring it to its original beauty.

I would never paint wood unless it was very damaged. I would definitely not paint this piece. I agree with scottvez and fhrjr2.

Agreeing wholeheartedly with the others that've spoken up -- PLEASE don't paint over that lovely woodgrain!!!

Really nice bow front dresser with original draw knobs, and lovely beveled glass mirror. What does the stencil say? Please don't paint over that or the dresser!

It's a great piece...no paint. You sound like my sister, she's always trying to paint stuff.

I guess it's unanimous. I will keep as is. I don't know what the stencil says. I was hoping someone could tell me what the stencil is and how old this piece is. Thanks everyone.

A town in Illinois, ending in RRECK, company name starting in C. H. - can someone fill in the blanks?
