    I found this large tray yesterday which i believe is bakelite. It's interesting how it looks like it had been painted w/ different colored layers of laquer and then polished down to the black leaving different colors in edges of the symbol. I've never seen such a large piece of bakelite before. it's 13 inches across.

      i wonder when this was made? when was bakelite used?

      thank you valentino! i'm not absolutely sure, but this feels exactly like the stuff used in antique radios. it's definitely older than it looks and really surprised me when i picked it up.

      i just did the 409 test on it and it showed positive for bakelite.

      The symbol is celebratory - something like 'let's party!' definitely bakelite.
