It is not an error. It’s a normal dime but has been ‘spooned’ by someone or has been in the drum of a dryer spinning for a while. There are several previous postings of them on CW.
I have several of them myself, as well as other denomination coins with the same rims.
They are interesting curiosities to have but the mint did not do that.

I have one as well. It's a 2020 D dime and it's smooth like a penny. It does not have what dimes have with both metals. There are others reporting the same but they can't make out the last number of the year. They also say it's done by someone tapping on it but it doesn't look like what a dime would look like if it was tapped. So I'm very confused.

Tiffinity, post a picture of yours. There are people on CW who can share their opinions of your dime.
You can also Google “Spooned coins” and probably get more pictures and explanation of how this happens to a coin.

I actually weighed it to other 2020 dimes. And it weighs under. Instead of like a normal 2020 dime at 2.268 grm. It weighs 2.024 grm. And you would think that even if it got pounded down by a dryer, you would think it would weigh the same... right? I'm not sure how you post a picture. Hold on, I'm sure I'll figure it out.

Tiffinity, I concur with Watchsearcher: please post pictures of your coin. :-)

In the meantime, here is a detailed explanation of how coins might be modified by washers/dryers (courtesy of CW user Kjhoran who has linked this here at CW S&T before):

BTW, I think it possible that a washer/dryer coin could weigh less than a normal one, depending on how long it had been taking a beating inside the machine.

Ok! Thanks, keramikos I posted my own explanation! :^D I hope that it helps! It was hard to get a clear photo in the Washer! Bill :^)

In a dryer, both front and back sides get worn down, plus the rim gets altered.
So, based on the weight of yours, I suspect yours is a “dryer” version rather than a “spooned” version.

The spooned version would weigh the same.

Watchsearcher, I agree. To me, it stands to reason that a worn coin would weigh less than a mint-fresh one.

I tried to find some supporting documentation of weight loss in dryer coins, but no joy.
