WW2 capture certificates. It appears that Cecil Wells was a souvenir collector. Photo is believed to be Wells.
2 X pistols, binos and a camera. He probably had a heavy duffle bag!
These certificates were required by some units to document souvenir items-- usually weapons.
Not sure what happened to the items-- probably more valued than the paperwork. When together with a firearm, these documents tend to enhance value and collectability.
In our modern conflicts (Iraq/ Afghanistan) some units continue to require these. There are fairly strict rules on what souvenir items can be taken, but of course firearms are forbidden.
