when i first saw this, i thought 'unusual pacific island bowl to go with my giant wood forks and spoons', but when i picked it up, it was different. It's much darker wood, heavier, much harder than the regular wooden bowl and is much older too. At the youngest, this is late 19th c. It's purplish red in places and dark black in others. the shape is not one i would have guessed for an older bowl. i'm perplexed! where is this from and what kind of wood?
Ha ha...I just gave away a giant fork and spoon that hung in the kitchen since as long as I could remember. My friends wife wanted them.
Cool bowl, I love anything in wood.
thanks dav2no1!
looks like a really old casaba sp? wood bowl that got wet and went dark
Ugh! I just recently heard about this purple wood! And you know how that goes at this age and stage of the game. I got the ICRS!!! Hopefully I'll remember and come back to let you know! It's rare.

Now the one I believe I remember is the purpleheart from Russia. It's definitely an exotic wood, no doubt!
