In the 'Historism or Victorian' period the artistery of glass production and décoration culminated, but there was no authentic taste associated with it; that appeared lateron in the early 1890er with the genuine 'Art Nouveau'. Here, this very finely enamelled Harrach vase brings about a summer impression of birds fluttering in the wind over a wheat field. The enlargement in the last foto shows the artistery of detailed painting a pair of vivid birds just within an area of 4x2 cm, actually most birds on the vase do not extend over 1". The vase including mount stands 22 cm high and measures at the top rim 4.5 and at the bottom 7 cm.
Kai, the fineness of the enamel work is just amazing. This is such a beautiful vase, and I am glad you shared it!
Dear Michelle,
thank you for your kind comment. I'm also enthusiastic about the enamel. Actually I have another, very same vase (same size, mount, glass and type of painting), the only difference being, that whereas this vase is painted 'endlessly' all arround, the other vase has clearly a front and backside.
Absolutely love this vase. I love the realism in the last picture of the two birds competing over something only they can see.
EXCEPTIONAL !!
Gorgeous!
Outstanding Kai. The detail is so great, thank you for sharing :)
