This is a white metal lion ink well. No marks looks to be hand painted. Any ideas as to age and maker? Thank you!

Oh, what a beautiful inkwell!! Can you tell if it's cold painted bronze of spelter? It could be early 1900's late 1800's Austrian.

I don't know anything about this ink well, but it is simply outrageous! I mean I can imagine having the type of desk that one would place this on - a very large desk, and it's presence demands respect from all in the room. I love it. so great of a find. Lori

      Hi Nan24,
If it were white metal, or spelter, a magnet wouldn't stick to it. It's really such a beautiful inkwell.

No metal bucket. Just the glass piece that’s sets on a metal rim. Looked all around inside no markings to be found.. Thank you!

      Hi Nan24,
It appears to be made of spelter which was used from the late 19th century on.

Here's a beauty. Many people apparently painted them. Your is missing his pedestal.
