    MOLLYMON
    (1 item)

Please help me find another one, if it even still exists. It is a clip-on with the word Germany imprinted on the clip. It looks like silver but thanks to a comment from teh group, I have learned it is eloxal aluminum. It is 1 and 1/8 inches long. We are all having a rough couple of years and of all the issues I am facing, this one feels like one I could try to do something about. I feel silly, but i have to try. Help me find this or some that are very very similar. I posted signs allover the area where I lost it, to no avail. Any suggestions of who to reach out to will be deeply appreciated.

Ms.CrystalShip, Wow. :-) The things I learn through CW S&T:

      *snip*

Now, as I keep running across aluminum jewelry, I became intrigued with its history. Aluminum jewelry is so lightweight that you might think it is cheap plastic. It is not plastic and a good eye will unfold a delightful history of designs that are highly collectible.

I learned from my research that aluminum jewelry got its start during the WWII era. Major metals were all going to the war effort so gold, silver, and other metal jewelry was hard to find at that time. But aluminum, that glorious pliable metal, could be made into high fashion pieces.

Those pieces with a mark of "Germany" were likely created prior to WWII and predates those marked with "W. Germany" by almost a decade.

Aluminum Eloxal, (electrolytic oxidation of aluminum), aluminum jewelry, was made primarily from 1945-1965 (some sources site the dates to be 1950 to 1970).

This stunning German eloxal aluminum peacock brooch is no longer available (scroll down):

Vintage PEACOCK Eloxal Aluminum Estate Pin Brooch - West Germany

This gorgeous vintage brooch is made of eloxal aluminum and has an ornate peacock design. It measures about 1 5/8" by 1 7/16". Signed W. GERMANY.

However, it led me to this German eloxal aluminum necklace and earring set which is still available:

      *snip*

The metal is stamped with a marcasite design that mimics inlaid marcasite stones...except these are not inlaid so they can't fall out. They're part of the metal and it's all still bright with no signs of age.

The necklace measures 17 inches around with a hook clasp to wear at length of your choice. It's 1 1/4 inches high at the leaves.

The earrings are 1 by 1 1/8 inches with secure clip backs.

The necklace is marked MADE IN GERMANY. This mark was used 1945 to 1949, prior to changing it to West Germany.

If that doesn't tickle your fancy, there are these:

      *snip*

Vintage Silver Tone Art Nouveau Style Calla Lily Earrings.

The Earrings are a lightweight metal (not sterling silver) with Marcasite Rhinestones (I'm guessing they are rhinestones as genuine marcasites are heavier).

      Earrings measure 1 3/8" long x 3/4" wide x 3/8" thick.

Back of Clip On Fasteners are marked MADE IN WEST GERMANY.

WOW! Keramikos...you made my day. I bought both the Lily earring and the necklace set so that I can relax a wee bit while looking for the lost one. At least I have something similar enough now that allows me to be much less despondent. I now have the language, thanks to all you folks to search more effectively and efficiently. I am leaving the post open until I find the true copy!. Still on the prowl and deeply grateful to you all!

MOLLYMON, You're welcome, but props must go to Ms.CrystalShip for providing the initial eloxal aluminum jewelry information. I had no idea such a thing existed.

I'm glad to know that you found some similar jewelry to assuage your distress over the loss of one of your favorite earrings, as well as some new information to aid you in your search.

      Good luck. :-)

Ms.CrystalShip, Hey, it might have been only a minute, but it was a crucial minute. Seriously, I had no clue about eloxal aluminum jewelry until you commented about it.
