Looks to be an authentic antique Chinese Ginger Jar. Famille Noir? It has a lid and markings on the bottom. Birds, cloud motif, flowers. Can't tell the age of it though.

The customary definition of antique requires that an item should be at least 100 years old and in original condition

but the categories are a bit sketchy so it's understandable. I'd put this in 'Ginger Jars' or Chinese Pottery.

it is a cute vase but what is it thats the question

lets start with the mark, what kind of mark is this, and is the application of the mark an indication for the quality

well its hard to say , probably its meant to be Da Qing Yongzheng Nian Zhi , not so delicately applied

the mark application is probably not printed or pressed , but it is not a ferro red, it is a kind of watery imitation, what probably narrows it down

what about the enameling , the color black is rather pale, and there is a lot of spill of dripping which is almost impossible in ancient pieces

actually the question is this an decal or Frankensteined application, probably not a decal , but a sort of fill in exercise

a question could be is it Zongghuo Frankensteined, Macao , or Hongkong

Zongghou used his own mark , and the black is more shining , The macao type of gingerjar probably used the Da Qing Qianlong Nian Zhi mark

so i don,t know, maybe a sort of minyao, it , is cute , but one thing is for sure , it aint old

Thank you both!! I agree that it doesn't look like any of the truly antique ones that I've found...but it is an interesting piece. I've removed it from the antique board. Thanks again!

maybe it could be late republic period they used the watery ferro red got some significance, i don,t want to downgrade it because it is still cute , so don,t be offended i hope, i use chinese ginger pots for clients gifts , and i paid 1500 dollars for 648 ginger pots cargo, shipment not included

Not offended at all. I'm very new to Chinese antiques and still learning.
