I know there's a few biscuit barrel admirers out there, so hope you all enjoy this one...
Found this as a reasonably priced buy it now last week. It hit the spot for many reasons - the pink threading in particular.
I like biscuit barrels a lot but they're often very expensive, so this was a very lucky find...I only have a couple in my collection so far.
It is made from clear glass with a satin finish, decorated all over with pink trailed threading that winds around & zig - zags up & down.
The biscuit barrel measures around 16.5 cm tall (not including the handle), 12.5 cm across, & 8 cm across the base.
The metal fittings (I don't think it is silver plate) are in worn condition & unmarked.
I am pretty certain this is of Bohemian origin. Maybe Pallme Koenig? The zig - zag effect reminds me of some of the threaded decors seen on vases made by them.
Last photo shows it with another threaded satin glass table ware item...a small jam jar with a silver plate lid. The threading on this is much finer, & a deep ruby red rather than pink.
This is so very pretty, and quite unusual in having pink veining. A really special find.
Many thanks, Peggy...I thought you'd enjoy this one...the pink is just super!
The metal parts are a bit rough looking in person but as this would be about 120 years old, it's all part of the charm...
Love biscuit barrels but only have one very special one. I really like this one that you have posted!!!
