Went for a small road trip today and found this at an antique shop. I should know what it is as the weather at the weekend wasn't great and spent a bit of time on Collectors Weekly looking at others collections and found one with dozens of these in different shapes and sizes, should have "followed" but can't find it now. It seems to be covered in a clear coat which is coming off and a lot of it already has, will flake off with only a small scrape with a fingernail, is this normal or did someone try to make it look brighter? Dimensions are 140mm high and about 120mm wide. Updated 2 pickys
Great find. The neck looks to have a satin finish so yes the coating probably was a DIY thing. Having glass trailing on one of these is unusual and very attractive. Also the formation of the feet is different from most.
Thanks for you input Peggy, its dark here now and put it under the old blue light the coating glows green much the same as a lacquer or glue, looks like my next job is to get a scraper out and do some cleaning. I don't mind a bit of work to clean it up as it was cheap.
This is super cool! As Peggy noted, both the trailing & footed base are really different & special. Even better that it was a bargain, too!
I too have cleaned up a few pieces with either ill - advised or badly worn painted finishes - a bit tedious, but well worth the effort when an item scrubs up nicely!
It would be great to see a photo of it post - makeover!
Hi Marin, yes a post clean up photo will be added! :)
Spent a bit of time cleaning with a fine knife and then a big needle using a set of magnifying glasses and it looks a lot better now. Thanks Peggy & Marin didn't want to do it without first checking it wasn't something that was put on from new. :)
