to give you a size comparison, I included the show it with my previous posting of a cigar box opener. This also is nickel plated and is in impeccable condition. The cigar can be nipped off either from the front (if you want an elongated nip), or it can be nipped off from the side to give a more rounded nip. Unlike the box opener, I did find a name on this tool. It reads "DONATUS - SOLENGEN". Because of the looped end, it most likely was put on a key chain or watch chain and kept in the user's pocket

You don't want too narrow of a cut or the nicotine while build up ruining the experience

      Hi dav2no1,
thank yo for your comment. I never heard the expression "cap cutter" before. I that what they were called?

Cigars have lots of confusing terms..

"On a new cigar, one end — the “foot” — is already open. The other end — the “cap” — is enclosed by a small piece of tobacco leaf that's separate from the main wrapper. As the cap end of the cigar will go in your mouth, it must be cut open before you can smoke it."

Additionally the cap is on the end called the "Head"

Of course there are cigars with both ends open..cheroots.
" cheroot is a filterless cylindrical cigar with both ends clipped during manufacture. Since cheroots do not taper, they are inexpensive to roll mechanically, and their low cost makes them popular. "

I will have to dig into my humidor...haven't smoked a cigar in a long time. Best with a glass of single male scotch..enhances the experience. My favorite is the Fuente Fuente Opus-X..

I used to smoke a lot of cigars in my 30s. There was a shop on the way home from work and I would stop and try a different cigar every week...

dav2, you are a cigar historian.
I never knew that there was so much to know about cigar terminology.
I have heard the term cheroot before, but I never knew the difference.
      Thank you for the information.
I will never think lowly of the noble, yet humble cigar, even if I never smoked one.
PS. The Scotch sounds good even without a cigar.
      Thanks for the comeback.

Cigars and scotch are kinda like art, everyone has different opinions on taste. And like art, just because it's expensive doesn't necessarily mean it's good. There are boxes of cigars that sell for $30,000 or more.
