Wildflower…

Found this in a shed. I've looked through several icebox photos online but I cant find any with a single door. The hardware is marked 1971 but the cabinet seems to be much older. Any help would be appreciated
You post a really bad set of photos and ask for help??? Put the lights on behind you and try again. You are taking pictures with the light in front of you, that doesn't work.
I'll try and get some better photos after work. These are just what I have stored on the phone
Now its rotating my photos sideways, my apologies.
Read the FAQ's this site does not rotate photos. You are taking them on a phone or tablet without downloading them to a computer and saving the rotated image. Instructions are toward the bottom of the FAQ's.
Hi, WildflowerRelics. :-)
As fhrjr2 wrote earlier, the Collectors Weekly site doesn't rotate photographs. Well, not deliberately. The site software doesn't play nicely with all makes and models of smartphones and tablets.
The CW Help does suggest downloading photographs to a (desktop) computer before uploading them to CW, but not everybody has a desktop computer nowadays.
A workaround is to trim your photographs so that the long sides are a bit shorter. That usually does the trick.
Please keep photos clean - who wants to help someone too lazy to post good photos which someone doesn't have to break their neck !! The site says to rotate your photos or DO NOT POST
It is an interesting piece, whatever it is?! (I can see well enough sideways for a glance, and the CW software usually fixes sideways pics by itself somehow given a little time, in my experience anyway?) Are its sides actually mirrors, that'd be kind of unusual. Any markings anywhere on it? Perhaps it was a 'beverage cooler' or somesuch intended for use outside of an actual kitchen...??? (just guessing)
PhilDMorris, In all fairness, the CW Help doesn't offer any help on rotating photos other than to download them to a (desktop) computer and edit them there:

I think it was CW user SpiritBear who pointed out that some people don't even own a desktop computer these days. I suspect that it's a generational shift.
Give this person a break! They only have 2 posts...I mean great first impression, let's bitch about their photos being sideways when 90% of the time it's the crappy software on the site.
When I first joined I had issues posting from my phone..my laptop died...and the owners said yes it's their software issue. And in all the time I've been here, they still haven't fixed it!
By the way, I hope someone can figure out what your item is. I apologize for the rude people. Not everyone here is like that. Most are here to share and learn stuff..
Bobby beat me to it about the drip pan & ice holder. While waiting for that info, I think it is a modern made replica made to be somewhat functional. The "1971" doesn't make sense unless it's a part #. Welcome to CW, aka CyberAsylum.
Here’s a word or 2 that I think WildflowerRelics will find helpful:
I do everything on my iPhone—-take pictures and post them on CW without ever using my desk-top computer.
The trick to making your pictures post correctly is to select the pictures you intend to post, then ‘edit’ those pictures by changing their size/dimensions/ change the margins/enlarge/whatever/just about any change will work ....then ‘save’ the change you made. Then post that picture on CW and it will show up correctly oriented.
I hope this helps!
And just a confession from me: I resisted posting anything for a long time because of this very issue.
After some trial and error with my phone, I finally figured out what worked....that was quite a relief because I had already read reactions to side-ways pictures and I didn’t want to get my feelings hurt!
I’ll be watching for more posts from you, WildflowerRelics, and I think your pictures will be perfect! Cheers!
Again I apologize for the sideways photos. I work 15 hour shifts and haven't been able to respond. The first set of photos I posted were the correct direction but were said to be unclear. The current were taken the same way just in a different room. I now see that (it) has rerotated one of the photos the correct orientation on it's own. I'm not purposely trying to take "sh*t" photos in Hope's of getting resolve to the question. As far as the icebox itself goes, there looks to be no rack that would've held shelving, nor a drip pan which leads me to believe it is a repro but, the quality of the build on the inside leads me to believe that it was original and has been altered. I only ask about the train cabinet because I've seen them converted through the years and I live in a textile city built on the railway. The mirrors seem to be original to the build as they are behind the molding. The inside is mostly mortise and Tenon joinery panels except for the back wall. If it werent for the build quality and shear weight of the piece I would chalk it up to a repro myself but given the shed it came out of it doesnt make sense. If it's a knockoff, from a woodworking perspective, it would have been much more work than the price would demand. Thankyou for all of the kind comments and again, my apologies for anyone having arthritis issues from my photos. If I end up selling it, I'll be sure and mail you some excedrin for all your woes
Pic #2 shows that the trim along the top edge is cut flush with the cabinet. That makes me think this cabinet was once part of a larger unit such as a Hoosier cabinet. Having a mirror on one side makes me think it was used in a bathroom as a medicine cabinet or in a bedroom as part of a chifferobe that has been disassembled and repurposed.
@Watchsearcher: I could see that. Never even crossed my mind. It really feels like it was either bolted to the wall in the back or part of something more entirely. The hinges throw me for a loop. Never seen them quite so large and with no markings on the cabinet itself, they are the only point of reference for a date which is July 1971. I'm just having a hard time finding a similar one for reference. Most chests are 3 door or atleast 2. Thus the reason I hate it when people alter items. If it has been altered, the truth might have been lost with it.
The hinges are a bit out of proportion for the cabinet size. I suggest you unscrew one of the hinges to see if there are other screw holes from previous hinges.
Are the interior walls the same thickness as the door? The door looks like it was meant to retain a cold temp.
You did not show us the bottom, top or flat side of the cabinet. Those sides might hold clues to its origin.
Since u can only use 4 pictures, you could make an additional post to include those aspects.
These pictures are much easier to see. The hinges and handle are the right size if the ice box were complete. This appears to be a poorly done reuse of what once was actually an ice box. For the record, in the 1890's McCray did install mirrors on their ice boxes. This isn't one because original mirrors were bevel glass. The left side of this shows a raw grain edge rather than the trim covering it. I would say this is one third or one quarter of an ice box.
Yes I agree it is definitely 1/3 as upon more digging and climbing over stuff, I've uncovered the rest of it tucked away in the shed. I do appreciate all of the comments and help. Once I reassemble it all I'll try and do more research. What I thought was the back, looks to be the right hand side of a much larger piece.
