Purchased for something like 7$ in the late 90s from that thrift store use to be on st. Charles rock road and 170 in st. Louis. Its utterly insane what folks throw away. How estates are unclaimed and end up at thrift stores. If you go to a thrift store long enough on an often basis you start to see how entire estates get defused to the floor and to the public. There was another large abstract expressionist canvas from the 60’s i ended up purchasing for 15$ that i believe is either a motherwell or early rothko. No i havent gotten this Miro or the other appraised. Probably should.

Thank you dav2no1 wow so this really is a thing. From a series of 18 based on a previous work?!? Wonderful and deep. There was a time that i shopped at a goodwill in south st. Louis on lindbergh and no joke i was in line with what i thought may have been a matisse. My debit card did not go thru as i had messed up with my balance and so i let it go. Later that year i heard that a matisse work had indeed been found in south saint louis on the radio. Sure enough… it was painting of ferns and wierd carpet if i remember correct. When i purchased this i didnt have Miro’s name ready but in the back of my mind i was familar with his radical style from reading the art books. In college i had a great poster of an Arp. Real simple topographic composition with only a few colors. I miss seeing it.

Jazzres, That is insane that you found a Joan Miró in a thrift store.

However, other CW users have found items such as gold-washed sterling silver metal mesh purses in thrift stores, so I suspect that you're exactly right about whole estates ending up in venues like that.
