Size 20mmx7mm plain edge same both sides. It's either a well made or deep imprint fake with some silver in the mix or a mint original
I have no idea but it came from my grandfather who was born in 1908.

Not an expert on coins. But just like the other old coin that was posted...lots of reproductions

Sure looks like a modern pendant from here.

      Hi, Westside66. :-)

      Per numista dot com:

      https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces61937.html

Here's somebody on Worthpoint who says they have to have a 1689 8 reales coin (albeit a repaired one) , and it does indeed have different images on the obverse and reverse:

      https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/1689-large-royal-doubloon-reales-coin-1733786259

I'm definitely not a coin expert but I think it unlikely that your pendant is a genuine 1689 eight reales coin. It's pretty cool, though.

I have one of the sedwick repros and their made of zinc and tin. This one is and old repro probably as it has some silver in it that I can detect with my basic spectroscopy unit. The usual fakes are thin tiny things this is Thick and heavy. It's an oddity and perhaps just shows that fake pieces of eight were in fashion in the 1930s. I love it if someone recognised it and can fill in the details.

Thanks keramiko, that's a really helpful link.
I'm going to buy a real one in the future, I just need to find a UK dealer who can find me a good one and sell it at a reasonable price. I've never bought antique coins.

      Westside66, You're welcome. :-)

Good luck on your search for a reasonably priced authentic Charles II 8 Reales coin. I took a look around, and they do seem to be very dear, unless you're willing to settle for an irregularly shaped cob coin.

I also took a look around to see if I could find another pendant like yours, but no joy.

There are plenty of 8 Reales pendants out there, and a lot of them are good quality, made of precious metals, but they're reproductions, albeit some of them made from Atocha shipwreck silver.

Atocha shipwreck silver, you know your coins wow, I'm impressed. That could be what this is made of it must be around 80 years old. Interesting; thanks for the links.
