I went through a phase of looking for Bakelite and thought that this was maybe it. Never did find out what this is as it ended up in a box and forgotten, maybe 8/9 years ago

Those beads look to me like they could be hematite.
Hello kerra they look and feel plastic but is very heavy, I have hematite stones in necklaces but they are magnetic and feel like stone , thanks for input tho
Steptoe1, Yes, hematite has a distinctive cool, metallic feel to it, and indeed is magnetic. You have the item in hand, so if it feels like plastic to you, it probably is. :-)
