In 1907, Lötz began to designate decors by execution numbers ("Ausführung"). Among them are several pairs that designate similar decors with different color variants. These include Ausführung 14 and 15, 25 and 26, 33 and 34, 80 and 81, 111 and 112, and probably also 127 and 128. Nevertheless, this does not seem to be a definite system. Later Ausführung versions from about 108 onwards combine several or all color variants under one number.
Ausführungen 14 and 15 are not very common. Their basic colors are marked "gelb marmorirt" (ellow marbled) and "weiss marmoriert" (white marbled) respectively. Both versions have three-dimensional applications in the form of stylized shamrocks. Here, too, there are two color variants: moss green and hyacinth (a darker red), although only one production number (II-6351) lists the combination of white marbled with applications in hyacinth. The original color combinations for the number assignment can be found on the patterns for PN II-6358 ("Ausführung 15 / Grund weiß marmorirt / 4 Auflagen moosgrün") and II-6368 ("Ausführung 14 / Grund gelb marmorirt / 3 Auflagen hyazinth"). However, Ausführung 14 can also be found with red applications. It can be assumed that, at the request of a customer, variants were made in green instead of hyacinth.
The coloration of the base glass is not entirely clear from the designations, but can be determined on the basis of known glasses. Thus, "gelb marmorirt" is marbled with greenish, brownish and reddish threads in addition to yellow. "weiss marmorirt" stands for staining with chromaventurine, i.e., metallic shimmering green filaments. Both glasses in the picture show these differences very clearly.
It is perhaps also interesting that the basic colors appear again in later versions. Ausführung 25 has the same marbling as Ausführung 15 and Ausführung 26 that of Ausführung 14 (here described as light brown). White marbled with aventurine is also the basic color of Ausführung 33, and presumably the same marbling with brown-yellow was used for Ausführung 34. However, glasses in this design are not yet known.
The two glasses shown are Ausführung 14 yellow marbled with green, production number II-6355 and Ausführung 15 white marbled with green, production number II-6364.
Excellent explanation - I was your underbidder on the Ausf 14. Amazing to see them side-by-side. Congratulations!
Congratulations !!!
Thank you both for your comments!
