Not old, likely not even 'vintage' but a nice piece of furniture, worth somewhere between what you paid for it and what somebody else will pay you for it...

      Hi, Carmel8714. :-)

      Beautiful.

      *snip*

Ever wondered about the connection between Lane & Knechtel? One of our amazing readers, Ted, found this helpful tidbit of info! In brief, Lane Furniture was indeed made in Canada during the early 1950’s (perhaps earlier) and was made specifically in Hanover, Ontario which was known for being the “furniture town” in Canada primarily because they had the most furniture manufacturing companies there. One of which was the well known, Daniel Knechtel, who started a furniture manufacturing company that became one of the largest in Ontario. Knechtel indeed did have the exclusive rights to produce and manufacture the Lane furniture name keeping the Lane name on it

As to worth, valuation isn't done here at Collectors Weekly Show & Tell.

Thanks- was hoping to figure out what year it might have been made based on serial number or style code

Carmel8714, I don't think that serial number is like U.S. Lane serial numbers that can be decoded to provide the year and month of manufacture.

A casual Internet search didn't turn up another like it, although I did find other Knechtel Lane furniture pieces.

Thanks keramikos I also did not find any similar in my search. my guess is 70-80s?

      Carmel8714, You're welcome, FWIW. :-)

A vintage of 1970s/1980s seems not unreasonable. It actually reminds me of a table my parents once had, and theirs was probably of that vintage.

FYI, I found this Knechtel Lane table, and the owner is interpreting the serial number in a non-Lane fashion. That is to say, they're interpreting serial number "051557" as being of 1957 vintage:

That would contradict traditional Lane serial number decoding:

      *snip*

You can read the serial number BACKWARDS to determine the production date.

For example: serial number 753150 would have been produced on 05/13/57.

Some chests may also have an extra digit which denotes the plant location.

For example: serial number 2557121 would have been produced on 12/17/55 in plant #2.
