Painting Of Ron As Sherlock Holmes Patrick Varriano 1999

Believe this to be a one-of-a-kind painting from the estate of avid Sherlock Holmes collectors. It is dedicated to one of them near the artist's signature. Note that Sherlock's deerstalker is made of actual cloth!

Thank you kwqd for correcting my mistake in identifying this Sherlock...appreciated!!!!

      Newfld,
Many thanks! Jeremy Brett was mine!

Looks more like Ronald Howard than Basil Rathbone, I think...

Was the original owner a member of the Baker Street Irregulars? I'm Jenni, I love Basil Rathbone as Sherlock, not to slight the others, of course.

      kwqd,
      Ron Howard?

      plein-air-painter,
I like Basil, but Jeremy is my absolute favorite. the original owner belonged to a Pittsburgh Group "The Fifth Northumberland Fusiliers." Thank you for the comment!

Ronald Howard played Sherlock Holmes on TV in the 1950s. He was the son of actor Leslie Howard.

You are most welcome vintagelamp! I think the entire Ronald Howard series was on Amazon Prime not too long ago. I think I have it on DVD, too.

Whew. Thought I was losing my weak little mind:

Not Opie, but rather Ronald Howard, son of Leslie Howard:

      kermikos,

Yes. I am very thankful that it was correctly identified. Appreciated!

vintagelamp, D'oh! I failed to read later comments before adding my own. I see now that kqwd had already cleared up the ambiguity about Ron(ald) Howard. >8-0

I agree with you about Jeremy Brett. His portrayal of Sherlock Holmes was fabulous, so much so that it overshadowed the rest of his resume as a performer.

It can come as a bit of a jarring surprise for some to see him playing the part of a singing society dandy in 1964's "My Fair Lady."

      keramikos,
Which goes to show that he was a great actor, playing totally different characters to perfection. I like the other actors alos, but Jeremy is the one who really got me hooked on Sherlock. Now I have a whole Sherlock room!
      Thanks for your comments!
