Been awhile since I've been on but had to share these two gems I found at the bottom of a bucket of old rusty tools I bought.
Bakelite, "knecker knobs". Guessing '30's -'40's. Did I mention I'm a sucker for old auto accecories?
My father had one on his tractor. They're pretty convenient.
We called them "suicide knobs" back in the 50's.
When I was driving truck I had one, suicide spinner. They are illegal here in Florida unless you have to go off road. You can buy them all over for around $10 down here yet they are illegal. Lots of boat owners buy them.
Seems everything is illegal in the States now. I'll bet, most of the politicians who voted to make them illegal, probably didn't even know what they are.
I've never understood *why* they're apparently "illegal". Of course they're probably much more useful on a boat, tractor, forklift, or somesuch, but what on earth supposedly makes 'em so specifically dangerous if on the steering wheel of a normal car or truck??

Guess that settles it. Rumours often do get repeated until they are accepted as fact. News media uses it all the time.
THANK YOU, Congcu for the definitive word! Now I can feel completely free to stop by my local auto parts store to see if I can find myself a 'new accessory' for my trusty F-150!! ;-) :-) :-)
