While on a beach vacation on the central coast of California, I happened to stop by a small antique store in Morro Bay, and sitting in a corner on a high a shelf was an unidentified Loetz Persica - it promptly came home with me!

It is a lovely piece in perfect condition, which is amazing to me for having been made in 1894. It wasn’t until I got it home and examined it in sunlight that I saw that the glass was covered in what looks like a fine mist of gold, which is different from the more usual kind of iridescence seen on Loetz. Persica is described by loetz.com as being ‘Yellowish green opal spreading violet ground’. The vase is 7-1/2" (19cm) tall and is marked in gold on the bottom with what I can clearly see as IV/20? and I believe the last digit is a 2, making it IV/202. DEK IV/202 is interesting to me in that it has so many variations, depending on which shape piece it is used upon.

We had a fun trip, and I also have a happy souvenir to remember it by!

Thanks so much Peggy! It is an understated decor. I usually just do a quick scan of the shelves for glass when I am in an antique store, and this one just popped out at me! There are very few antique stores near where I live, and the few that are here are very expensive. On the coast there were quite a few shops, and they were very reasonably priced, too. This vase was not expensive, and she even gave me 10% off at the register! :)

Kivatinitz, it was our very first time away from home since March 2020, and we wanted to be safe by not flying and not going too far from home - we really did enjoy the beach - and the unexpected Loetz! :)
