This is a beautiful piece of what I think is very old Sevres that I just found at a yard sale. It is about 6 inches tall with the lid and 5 inches wide. It looks like it is signed, but I can't make it out. And I can't make out the letter in the double L's. The other thing that is a little strange about it is the underside is not the usual smooth looking porcelain. I'm thinking this piece could be very early? Thank you for any help or ideas.

The mark is La Manufacture de Vincennes, created in 1740 and moved to Sevres in 1756. Those are museum pieces and they are not found in yard sales.Being very popular, Sevres porcelain was widely reproduced by many French and European factories. Yours is French repro from late 19th. century.
Take a look here (my box):

Thank you! How can you tell it is a reproduction? I ask because I know so little about Sevres, and this piece is so beautiful.
    3. IVAN49 IVAN49, 3 years ago
It is obviously hard paste porcelain, unlike genuine soft paste Sevres.
The painted mark on unglazed biscuit is completely wrong.
Anywhere you see a Sevres mark on eBay, any online selling retail outlet, a garage sale, a charity store, simply begin with the assumption it is not genuine Sevres.

don,t we have to upgrade this , because it is a celeste and i wonder if this a Diane de Poitiers, the question remains are we out Napoleon 3 style
    5. apostata apostata, 2 years ago
see the top signing Poitiers, we are possibly in an roque ferronniere

x insert all over again this is real , all this is applique eleve this is not nap 3 this is much earlier , i gonna proof this till the cascade falls, this is real, rare and it is topnotch (hospital first be back)

Thank you apostata for all of this fascinating information. I can't wait to see what you discover. I know very little about this piece but it is beautiful and looks very old. To me it appears to be in almost perfect condition.

kaminski auctions Diane de Poitiers, sevres porcelain= link

this is the conclusion of kaminski liaison live auctioneers

sylingconclusion of me C1820 Sevres Jeweled Portrait Cup and Saucer
All > Decorative Art > Porcelain & China
Circa 1820 Sevres jeweled portrait cup and saucer with raised enamel dots and handpainted portraits of French nobility, including Francois I, Diane de Poitiers, and La belle Ferronniere, saucer 5 1/2" diameter. Provenance: New York estate.

so this bozo see this as genuine Sevres , which is rather starnge , because there are no early except the crescent which was far earlier and more complicated

so in mine opinion this is sevres STYLE !!!!! marking

      now we go to

A Sevres porcelain coffee can, circa 1779, of cylindrical shape with kicked loop handle, finely painted with three portraits of Francois I, Diane de Poitiers and Claude de France, edged with jewelled and gilt borders against a bleu celeste ground, 7.5cm high.

see smaller pictures, BB mark so we are defined we are closed

so the styling is the some but the marking is different in these examples the time spread is not much ( believe me we can extrapolate here)

well when it is sevres styles , what sevres styles are we in
Well we are in RUE DE LA PERE STYLE

Paris (France – Rue de la Paix) Founded in 1820 by: Feuillet
      Used: 19th century

Feuillet porcelain was bought from several porcelain factories, including the Sèvres factory and decorated in the Sevres style.

see entry mark accompagned with chinese symbols
are we having bad luck here , no we aren,t because sevres has value in his own
but this paris sevres styles so it is possible that the naked ware is sevres and the application is SURE paris, ware

i searched for the spread , well there is no late spread in the type of ware, IMO this is an ‘pâte dure’,around 1827, so the conclusion this is late this is LAteNapoleon 3 ware is premature see IVAN conclusion Yours is French repro from late 19th. century.

in the above tekst or links you see estimates
well estimates don,t mean shit can,t discuse value here

to give a pair of variables
1This aint a cup , but this is what the call pot couvert which are rare
2 the estimates are actually old, lets say 3 years, imo they are almost obsolte, ( i got the ROI index here), and they do well
      3 i don,t give a s , the get a lower attribution , let,s say SEvres versus Sevres style

the applique elevee is in complete synchronisation with the robe

this is better than sex , uuch ,ooch , ok let,s call it a draw

      waki
