    I got two of these off marketplace they are Red Comet automatic fire extinguishers probably made in the early 1920s. They would hang them above a boiler or a furnace and if they got hot enough or spring loaded piece would bust the glass and help put the fire out. One red comet fire grenade. Thanks in advance for any reply!

      dave2no1 is right, The liquid is carbon tetrachloride (not sure of the spelling). It is a highly cancerous chemical and you don't want to spill that in your home.

      I forgot to mention, they sure are pretty to look at, and if the liquid could be replaced with water, they would make a great display.
